The Reverend Canon Kevin W. Bothwell is a Canon of Christ’s Church Cathedral in Hamilton and a retired Priest in the Diocese of Niagara, Anglican Church of Canada.
Canon Bothwell retired from full time ministry in November of 2022. He had most recently been the Rector of St. Thomas’ Church in St. Catharines ON, and Chair of St. Thomas’ Daycare Board. In previous years he was also the Chaplain in the Lower School at Ridley College in St. Catharines. He has served on several boards in the past including The Programme Resources Board of the Diocese of Toronto, The Financial Advisory Committee of the Diocese of Niagara, Scouts Canada Battlefields Region, Gillian’s Place in Orangeville ON, the Youth Drop-In in Grand Valley ON, and Renison University College in Waterloo. He has also served as Regional Dean for two regions in the Diocese of Niagara. He is presently on the Board of Directors for the Edison Singers and is the July priest-in-charge at St. Peter’s on-the-Rock, Stony Lake (Lakefield).
Canon Bothwell was born into an Anglican clergy family. His father William Bothwell was also in Holy Orders and his uncle John Bothwell is a former Bishop of Niagara and Archbishop of Ontario.
Originally from Toronto, Canon Bothwell has lived in Montreal, Mono Township, Orangeville, Guelph, and St. Catharines. He is married to Toni and they have two grown daughters, a cocker spaniel named Leah, and a ragdoll cat named Moxie.
Canon Bothwell finds his own grounding in the Catholic expression of Anglicanism and tries to follow the adapted direction of St. Francis to: “Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words.” In other words, let us live and embody what we believe first, and then worry about preaching it. He insists that we must never use personal preferences in worship or theology as a weapon. We are all God’s Children, and we are all sisters and brothers in Christ.
